Guide
The paperwork in an ACar sale, and who handles it
Selling a car means a stack of documents: the listing agreement, sale records, odometer disclosure, title, payoff documents and MVC filing. With ACar, you sign online and ACar prepares and files the rest.
Documents the seller signs
- Seller Listing Agreement, before your listing goes live
- Final odometer confirmation when the car transfers
- Loan payoff authorization, if the car is financed
- The seller section of your original title, which you send to ACar
Documents the buyer signs
The buyer signs a vehicle-specific packet online that includes the purchase agreement, bill of sale, the federal Buyers Guide and warranty-status disclosure, and the odometer disclosure, which stays locked until you confirm the final mileage.
What ACar prepares and files
- The official NJ MVC title and registration paperwork
- Tax, title, registration and lien information for the file
- A review of the document and title package
- Registration and plate tracking for the buyer
Why a bill of sale alone is not enough
A bill of sale records the sale, but ownership moves through the assigned title, the buyer’s identity and insurance, the registration application and any lien release. ACar keeps all of those in one file so nothing is missing at the end.
