Guide
How to buy a used car in New Jersey with ACar
ACar lists cars from private sellers and handles the purchase like a dealership would: one clear price, a guided checkout, digital documents, and title and registration paperwork handled for you.
What you see before you buy
Every listing is reviewed by ACar before it is published and includes guided photos, features, condition details and visible imperfections. Listings include a free CARFAX report, VIN, title and mileage checks, available maintenance records and a verified seller.
The price you pay
The published price is the price. There is no platform, document or processing fee added at checkout, because ACar’s compensation is already built into the price. New Jersey sales tax is added on top at checkout.
Test drives
Choose from times the seller has approved. Before a test drive, you complete readiness steps such as identity verification and insurance, and you receive meeting details, reminders and updates.
Checkout in five sections
Checkout keeps every requirement visible, saves your progress and shows whether a step is waiting on you, the seller, payment processing or ACar review.
- About you: legal name, contact details and the registration address
- Pickup: request a date at least 3 business days out; the seller normally confirms within 24 hours
- Identity: scan your ID and take a selfie through Stripe Identity
- Payment: connect your bank through Stripe for ACH, or use the reservation option shown in checkout
- Documents: review and sign the purchase agreement, bill of sale and disclosures online
After checkout
Add the car to your insurance, which must be verified before pickup. ACH payments typically take 3 to 5 business days to clear, and pickup goes ahead once payment, documents, title and insurance checks are complete. ACar prepares the title and registration paperwork, and your registration and plates are tracked in your order.
